Preliminary Soap Trailer

For the first part of my coursework, we were given some planning time to re-shoot some scenes from already existing soaps around college. We were then given the video cameras and we started to shoot. This helped us understand how to shoot scenes in a soap trailer, and use the conventions correctly. We also learned how to edit the trailer together and create parallel narrative. We used software such as iMovie and gained an understanding of it. We encountered several problems while making this trailer, particularly with using the video camera, and this helped us to avoid these problems in the future.

We all gained knowledge and experience in acting, camera work and script during this preliminary task. We also practised good planning, which would come in helpful for our real soap trailer. Locations used were also important because we found that shooting inside college proved to be difficult due to the noise of students around us, and shooting outside had to be planned carefully due to the weather (the microphone picking up the wind) and strangers walking by.

I chose not to use the same soundtrack in my final soap trailer as I felt that it didn't fit very well at all.
